TE KAAHU is an award-winning alt-folk project led by celebrated singer-songwriter, Theia, who hails from Aotearoa (New Zealand) but is currently based in the USA.
TE KAAHU’s 2022 debut self-titled album was met with critical acclaim, winning NZ's prestigious Taite Prize for 'Best Independent Debut' . The album was a finalist in every major music award in NZ in 2022/2023.
With a signature sound that pairs angelic vocals and haunting harmonies with lush nostalgic alt-folk; and messages of love, peace, healing and hope, TE KAAHU takes the listener to soaring heights and devastating depths.
TE KAAHU has toured extensively throughout NZ, as well as North America. Tour highlights include WOMAD (NZ), Cuba Dupa (NZ), Auckland Folk Festival (NZ), Hamilton Arts Festival (NZ), Big Sound (Brisbane), Calgary Folk Music Festival, Folk on the Rocks (Yellowknife), Lightning In A Bottle (California) and support slots for Canadian folk-soul artist Frazey Ford, NZ dream-pop queen Fazerdaze and NZ rock-funk legends Dimmer.
In December 2024, TE KAAHU released a gorgeous triptych of song titled I ROTO I TE POO, I ROTO I TE AO ahead of showcasing at Folk Alliance 2025 in Montreal, Canada.
TE KAAHU has collaborated with fellow NZ folk/country artist,
Delaney Davidson, as well as the award-winning Australian singer-songwriter
Jen Cloher.
